Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has waxed poetic over West Ham United playmaker Dimitri Payet, report the Daily Mirror.

The Frenchman has continued the sparkling form he showed with the Hammers last season into the Les Blues campaign at Euro 2016, emerging as one of their most important players.

As a result, the 29-year old has been linked with a move to the Spanish capital for huge money, a significant increase on the £10m the Irons shelled out to bring him over from Marseille last summer.

Such is the nature of his impressive form in East London, the club afforded him a bumper new deal just six months into the one he initially penned upon his arrival.

Zidane, a legendary French midfielder himself of course, has praised the midfielder and insists his arrival at any team in Europe would go someway into improving it.

”It is a great story — he [Payet] has always had talent, but now at 29 he is getting the respect he deserves”, said the World Cup winning Los Blancos boss.

“There is so much pressure on young players to perform on the biggest stage, Dimitri has shown things don’t always have to happen early.”

“He had an incredible season with West Ham, and now at the Euros is showing that no occasion is too big for him. He would improve any side in Europe that is how talented he is.

“From a coach’s perspective he is everything you look for in an attacking midfield player.

“He can score goals, he can create goals and he has real quality from set pieces. Any club would want him, he is improving all the time.”
