Middlesbrough are close to completing the signings of both Alvaro Negredo and Antonio Barragan from Valencia, reports the Daily Star.

Former Manchester City striker Negredo is expected to fly to England in the next 48 hours, to seal a loan deal with the newly promoted side.

The forward was paid £130,000 during his time in England, and is on a similar wage in Spain, which is a fee Middlesborough cannot match. However, they are hopeful of finding a deal with Valencia, with Negredo entering his final year of his contract.

Negredo scored 5 goals for Valencia in each of his two seasons with the club, but netted nine in his one and only Premier League campaign. The powerful forward is reportedly keen on a return to England.

Full-back Barragan is close to completing a £2million switch from La Liga, with Boro officials in Spain to finalise the deal.

The 29-year-old made 24 league appearances last term, and was once an under-21 international with Spain.
