The versatile full-back, who can operate on either side of the defence, has made twelve appearances in Europe’s top competition throughout his career, also representing former club Malaga.

Earlier this week, The Northern Echo reported that the Magpies were on the verge of signing Gamez, despite rivalled interest from Premier League suitors Everton and West Ham.

And the Tynesiders have now confirmed the Spaniard’s arrival via their official website after making Gamez their fourth signing of the summer.

The Magpies have already signed goalkeeper Matz Sels, midfielder Matt Ritchie and striker Dwight Gayle ahead of their season in the Championship under Rafa Benitez.

Gamez’s arrival could see resident right-back Daryl Janmaat leave the club during the summer transfer window.
