Arsenal ready to leave Chelsea behind in transfer war for £57m hitman

Updated: July 6, 2016

According to reports from London Evening Standard, Arsenal are ready to step up their interest in Chelsea transfer target Alvaro Morata.

Real Madrid have just activated a £23million buyback clause to re-sign the former Juventus striker, who lifted two Serie A titles and reached a Champions League final during his time in Turin.

But Los Blancos are willing to sell on the Spain international, who bagged three goals at Euro 2016, and Morata will only seek to stay at the Bernabeu if he’s given assurances over first team football.

Chelsea are known admirers of the 23-year-old and have an inside track through manager Antonio Conte, who signed Morata for Juventus back in summer 2014.

But London Evening Standard claim Arsenal are ready to accelerate their interest in the 6 foot 2 striker after missing out on Leicester City frontman Jamie Vardy.

However, both clubs remain unconvinced with Real Madrid’s valuation of Morata – a staggering £57million.
