According to reports from Sport, Arsenal want to agree a new contract with right-back Hector Bellerin to fend off transfer interest from Barcelona.

The Spain international, who was selected for Vincente del Bosque’s Euro 2016 squad, has emerged as one of the most exciting young full-backs in Europe since becoming a Gunners regular two seasons ago.

Indeed, he claimed the no.2 slot in the PFA Team of the Year for 2015/16 after bagging one goal and five assists in 36 Premier League appearances.

That has attracted a number of Europe’s top clubs to the 21-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window including PSG and Barcelona.

The Calatans have earmarked Bellerin as a long-term successor to triple Champions League winner Dani Alves, who is on the verge of leaving the Nou Camp for Juventus.

But according to Sport, Arsenal are determined to keep hold of the La Masia product and are ready to extend his contract by two more years in a bid to fend off Barcelona.

Bellerin’s current terms expire at the end of the 2018/19 season.
